The APW was inspired by the contemplative life and writing of Hilary Peters (1939-2022), long-time resident of Worcester Lodge on the Badminton Estate. Late in life, her conversations with Catherine Price, leader of the Community of St Aldhelm at Malmesbury Abbey, inspired the vision of a local pilgrimage experience which could be experienced by all.

The APW is situated in the North Wiltshire Mission Area, a Church of England initiative in the Diocese of Bristol. It is administered by Malmesbury Abbey (Charity No. 1146631).
